Swedish political parties reveal election platforms

Swedish political parties are outlining their platforms ahead of the upcoming elections, with a heavy focus on climate policy, taxation, and local governance.

Socialdemokraterna leader Magdalena Andersson has rejected proposals to increase fuel taxes, despite expert warnings that higher prices are necessary to meet 2030 climate goals. Instead, she advocates for subsidies for used electric vehicles. She also dismissed a proposed billionaire tax suggested by Vänsterpartiet.

Miljöpartiet is campaigning on aggressive climate action and local empowerment. In Gothenburg, they propose expanding participatory budgeting to more districts, while in Malmö, party goals include potential congestion taxes and car-free city centers. Amanda Lind, MP spokesperson, emphasized the need for a strong climate kickstart through a majority government with the Social Democrats, Center Party, and Left Party.

Centerpartiet has introduced a climate plan aiming for 90% of new car sales to be electric by 2030. Meanwhile, Vänsterpartiet in Stockholm is proposing a ‘baby card’ to allow parents to travel for free on SL public transport with children for their first year.

In Malmö, local governance remains a point of contention, with critics noting that recent policies have significantly reduced accessibility for motorists in favor of cycling and public transit.
