Swedish political leaders face tensions within right-wing bloc
Swedish political leaders are facing internal tensions within the right-wing bloc ahead of the upcoming election. During an SVT debate, Liberal Party leader Simona Mohamsson and Sweden Democrat leader Jimmie Åkesson shared an embrace following discussions regarding voting strategies and the relevance of the Liberal Party.
Simultaneously, friction has emerged between the Christian Democrats (KD) and the Sweden Democrats. KD leader Ebba Busch stated she might consider supporting Magdalena Andersson in an “exceptional situation” involving war or crisis to ensure national responsibility. This prompted Jimmie Åkesson to question the reliability of KD voters.
Following a meeting between Busch and Åkesson, Busch clarified that a vote for KD remains a vote for a blue-yellow victory and stability, though she did not retract her comments regarding potential support for the Social Democrats under extreme circumstances. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed confidence that the coalition partners will remain stable, noting that political disagreements are a natural part of working closely together.
