Swedish political parties debate AI and copyright

During a cultural policy debate held at Moderna Museet ahead of the Swedish parliamentary election, representatives from eight parties discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on copyright and creative professions.

Vänsterpartiet proposed that public authorities should lead by example by hiring human photographers and illustrators instead of using AI-generated imagery for communication. They also suggested that a forthcoming Swedish language model at the Royal Library should provide compensation to authors and journalists.

Socialdemokraterna proposed establishing a copyright board, modeled after a Danish system, to help individual creators navigate legal challenges against AI companies. Meanwhile, Miljöpartiet emphasized the need for traceability to ensure creators receive proper recognition for their work, warning that the specific needs of cultural creators risk being overlooked in broader AI discussions.
