Swedish political parties show consensus on space policy

Ahead of the 2026 parliamentary election, Swedish political parties have expressed broad consensus regarding the importance of space activities, though a unified long-term vision remains lacking. The Swedish Rocket Society (Svenska Rymdsällskapet) reports that all eight parties in the Riksdag support Sweden's role as a space nation, emphasizing research, innovation, security, and international cooperation.

There is widespread support for developing the Esrange space base near Kiruna and modernizing Swedish space legislation. However, specific strategic directions vary by party. The Moderate Party focuses on security, NATO, and EU cooperation, viewing space as a strategic area for Swedish industry. The Christian Democrats also emphasize security and strategic autonomy, while the Liberals propose a concrete ten-year goal for Sweden to design, build, and launch its own satellites.
