Swedish political shifts show rising support for Moderate Party among youth

Recent election data indicates a significant shift in the political preferences of young voters in Sweden. The Moderate Party has emerged as the largest party among first-time voters, with support among 18–21-year-olds increasing from 26 percent to 30 percent, marking its highest level since 1991.

In contrast, the Sweden Democrats (SD) have seen a decline in support among this demographic, dropping from 22 percent to 15 percent. The Social Democrats remain steady at approximately 20 percent, while the Liberals have seen their support nearly halved.

Analysts suggest this trend is driven by young people facing high barriers to employment, housing, and economic security. Additionally, views on integration have shifted, with the proportion of young people favoring reduced refugee reception rising from 37 percent to 55 percent in 2024.
