Swedish politicians clash over economic policy and budget
Swedish political tensions have escalated between Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson and Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar following a televised debate. During the exchange, Dadgostar responded to a question regarding whether it is worse to rob a bank or own one by stating, “Att äga en storbank” (To own a large bank).
Svantesson has criticized Dadgostar’s economic understanding, claiming the Left Party leader does not know the size of the state budget. Svantesson defended her administration’s efforts to combat inflation and argued that the primary threat to the Swedish economy comes from opposition policies regarding taxes, immigration, and foreign aid.
The debate also touched upon former Finance Minister Anders Borg, whose recent economic assessments were characterized by Dadgostar as a sign of instability within the Moderate Party. Svantesson, however, praised Borg as the best finance minister Sweden has had and suggested his involvement highlights the risks posed by the opposition's fiscal plans.
