Swedish ports report growth in container and cargo volumes
Major Swedish ports are reporting significant growth in cargo and container volumes during the first half of 2026.
Helsingborgs Hamn has seen an increase in container handling, with 92,000 TEUs managed between January and April. Total cargo handling rose by over six percent to 2.6 million tons during the same period. The port also noted a seven percent increase in freight vehicle traffic on ferry services, despite global logistical uncertainties and rising fuel costs.
Similarly, the Port of Gothenburg reported strong cargo flows, handling 462,000 TEUs from January to June. While total unit numbers remained consistent with record levels from 2025, actual cargo volumes rose due to an increase in laden containers. The port is seeing growth in direct services to and from Asia and a rise in rail-connected volumes, which reached 268,000 TEUs, marking a two percent increase compared to the previous year.
