Swedish Pride festivals in Malmö and Sundsvall draw record crowds

Malmö Pride is scheduled for 1–4 July and this year moved its main venue to the Moriskan building, creating a low‑floor, easily accessible “Pride House”. The festival now offers over 130 programme items, including queer speed‑dating, lectures on LGBTQ‑I refugee situations, a youth‑focused Pride on Arena 305, a concert on Malmö’s summer stage with Nanne Grönvall and Elecktra, and a parade that will finish at Folkets park. The 2024 theme is “No apologies”, reflecting a more confrontational stance ahead of the national elections.

Sundsvall Pride ran an eight‑day celebration from 28 June to 5 July, having grown from a two‑hour event in 2007 to a full week of activities. Highlights included a rainbow mass at the local Swedish Church, the art exhibition “Allas rätt att få vara sig själv”, an RFSL‑run café selling rainbow merchandise, and a schedule of free youth workshops, music, and storytelling events across the city’s cultural venues.
