Swedish Region Dalarna's Cosmic Medical Journal System Faces Labor Complaints

A safety representative at the women’s clinic in Dalarna has filed a 6:6a complaint to the Swedish Work Environment Authority alleging that the region’s new electronic patient record system, Cosmic, has caused a "clear and serious deterioration" of the work environment. The complaint, signed by safety officer and physician Jessica Palm, lists multiple problems: the system is slow, intermittently unstable, and overly complex, forcing doctors to navigate six to eight different tabs for each patient and to re‑filter information repeatedly. This has led to ethical stress, increased waiting queues and the need to prioritize patients in ways clinicians consider unacceptable.

Hundreds of doctors across the region have echoed the concerns, describing patient‑safety risks and demanding a return to the former system, Take Care. Region Dalarna’s head of the women’s clinic, Emelie Sternö, responded that Cosmic will remain in use and that the focus is on stabilising and improving the existing system rather than switching to a new one. The region also noted that a technical, legal and financial review would be required to exit the shared Sussa agreement that underpins Cosmic’s deployment.
