Swedish regions launch joint audit of Cambio Cosmic healthcare system

Three Swedish regions—Dalarna, Gävleborg, and Blekinge—have commissioned a joint external audit following reports of issues with the implementation of the Cambio Cosmic healthcare information system. The audit, to be conducted by the firm Azets, will focus on patient safety and how the transition has impacted healthcare delivery.

Auditors intend to investigate whether documented risk analyses were conducted prior to the system's rollout and whether staff received sufficient training to use the software safely. Concerns raised by healthcare personnel include difficulties managing referrals and patient appointments. One reported error even posed a risk of duplicate medication prescriptions.

The financial implications of the system are significant, with the contract with Cambio estimated to cost approximately 515 million SEK between 2020 and 2040. In Dalarna, an additional 9.5 million SEK has been allocated to stabilize the system. The audit is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
