Swedish researchers identify distinct personality traits in moose
Researchers at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) have conducted the first study on the personalities of Swedish moose. By observing seven moose in a park in Västerbotten over a ten-week period, scientists identified distinct behavioral traits among individuals.
The study categorized the animals into different personality types, ranging from dominant and bold to shy and cautious. Researchers noted that the most dominant individuals were more likely to approach humans and accept being petted, though they tended to be less social with other moose.
Bruno Esattore, a researcher specializing in animal behavior, stated that the findings demonstrate that the methodology for identifying these traits is effective. The research team hopes the method can be used by moose park managers to better manage visitor interactions and ensure both animal welfare and visitor safety.
