Swedish researchers to study experiences of young female offenders
Researchers from Umeå University, Kristianstad University, and Örebro University are launching a study to examine the experiences of young women and girls convicted of violent crimes. The project aims to investigate their use of violence, their vulnerability, and their life situations both before and during incarceration.
Lead researcher Linda Arnell noted that existing research on this specific demographic is limited and primarily focused on North American contexts. The study seeks to gain deeper knowledge regarding mental health, vulnerability, and the effectiveness of support and treatment. The findings are intended to help address needs identified by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service and to assist in developing more relevant individual and societal methods for support.
