Swedish Riksdag welcomes 97 new members

The newly elected Swedish Riksdag will convene this Monday, featuring 97 new members out of the 349 total representatives. This means over a quarter of the parliament consists of newcomers.

The Left Party (Vänsterpartiet) has the highest proportion of new members, with 17 out of 30 representatives (57 percent) being new to the Riksdag. Other notable newcomers include former EU Parliamentarian Malin Björk and municipal councilor Daniel Bernmar. Among the new members is Mohamed Ali, who intends to take a hiatus from parliamentary work pending a police investigation into potential election fraud in his constituency.

The Liberal Party (Liberalerna) follows with 42 percent new members, including party leader and Education Minister Simona Mohamsson. The Green Party (Miljöpartiet) also sees significant turnover with 36 percent new members. Additionally, several ministers from the outgoing government, including Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer and Culture Minister Parisa Liljestrand, are among those taking their seats.

In Kungsbacka, Hanna Schölander (L) is transitioning from regional politics to the Riksdag, joining three other politicians from the area with previous parliamentary experience.
