Swedish road scams exploit drivers and parking officials

A driver reported that two parking enforcement officers, allegedly of Middle‑Eastern origin, issued a fine, then parked their own vehicle in a prohibited spot, entered a nearby shop, and later threatened the driver with retaliation, claiming to have recorded the car’s registration. The driver’s attempts to file a police complaint were repeatedly dismissed, prompting concerns about abuse of authority.

Police warn that a seasonal wave of "road pirates" is sweeping Swedish and European highways each summer. Scammers pose as stranded motorists or claim vehicle problems to lure drivers—often elderly—into opening doors, after which accomplices steal the vehicle, money, or valuables. Incidents have been recorded on major routes such as the E6 between Malmö and Oslo, the E4, and the E18 in Värmland. Authorities note a rise in aggressive tactics and advise motorists to remain cautious.
