Swedish security experts call for enhanced civil preparedness

In response to security assessments identifying Russia as a significant threat, calls are growing for strengthened civil preparedness in Sweden. The Stjärnpartiet Sverige party has proposed a coordinated security and preparedness plan for 2027 for Kalmar County. This plan aims to involve the County Administrative Board, Region Kalmar, and local municipalities to analyze vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure, including electricity, telecommunications, drinking water, ports, and the Öland Bridge.

Emphasis is being placed on testing backup solutions for healthcare systems, school meals, and elderly care to ensure functionality during prolonged power or digital outages. Additionally, new security regulations in the school system, effective July 2025, require preparedness plans for serious violence and controlled access to facilities.

Parallel discussions regarding national security highlighted the rise of global fraud industries. Experts from organizations including Amnesty International, Interpol, and the Swedish Police discussed the use of AI in cybercrime and the human trafficking elements involved in Southeast Asian fraud centers. Recommendations for digital safety include verifying online store addresses and remaining skeptical of social media advertisements.
