Swedish security firm pays compensation for age discrimination

A large security company in Sweden has agreed to pay 50,000 SEK in compensation to a 60-year-old woman following allegations of age discrimination during a recruitment process.

The woman applied for a marketing manager position but was not granted an interview. Upon inquiring, she was informed by the recruitment manager that the company was seeking a candidate who was in the same age bracket they had been in 1994, which would have made the candidate 28 years old at the time.

The Akademikerförbundet SSR union initiated negotiations and later pursued legal action through LO-TCO Rättsskydd, citing violations of the Discrimination Act. The company offered the settlement shortly before court proceedings were to begin.
