Swedish shipwrecks from 1714 discovered in the Baltic Sea

Archaeologists have discovered the well-preserved wrecks of two Swedish ships, the frigate "Postillion" and the armed transport "Cecilie," in the Baltic Sea near the coast of Rügen. The vessels sank in December 1714 during the Great Northern War.

Joint investigations by the State Office for Culture and Monument Preservation and the Vrak Museum in Stockholm have uncovered numerous artifacts. Significant finds include a ship's bell, a bronze cannon likely dating back to the Thirty Years' War, and various everyday items such as wooden game pieces, clay pipes, bowls, cutlery, and a cooking pot. These discoveries provide new insights into the equipment, supplies, and daily lives of sailors in the early 18th century.
