Swedish small businesses report highest optimism since 2022

The autumn Small Business Barometer, a joint survey by Företagarna, Swedbank, and Sparbankerna, indicates a significant economic turnaround for Swedish small and medium-sized enterprises. Following several years of economic hardship characterized by a cost crisis and weak demand, business confidence has reached its highest level since 2022.

According to the report, which is based on approximately 7,000 responses, companies are anticipating increased turnover and higher profitability. While many businesses expect to expand their workforce, the recovery has not yet translated into significant job growth. Industry and certain service sectors are leading the recovery, whereas trade, construction, and IT sectors show a weaker starting position.

Regional data shows a brighter outlook in Central Sweden and Norrland compared to Southern Sweden. Economic experts note that while optimism is rising, political action may be required to lower hiring thresholds and improve growth conditions to ensure this confidence leads to actual investments and new employment.
