Swedish sports festivals draw thousands in Kalmar and Karlskrona

The Ironman Kalmar triathlon took place on a Saturday in August, turning the Öland Bridge into a narrow corridor as tens of thousands of local residents gathered to cheer athletes from around the world. Competitors completed a 4 km swim, a 180 km bike ride and a marathon‑length run, and the event has been voted the world’s best Ironman competition, providing a significant boost to the city’s tourism sector.

On 8–9 August, the SBT 5* Karlskrona volleyball tournament was held at Stortorget and the Långö beach. The competition featured eight women’s and five men’s teams representing the GBC club, including notable players such as Hulda Rudberg, Frida Johansson, Alexander Annerstedt and Teddie Almblad Engvall. Matches were streamed live, and the event marked the penultimate stop of the summer elite tour.
