Swedish train operator Tåg i Bergslagen faces funding uncertainty
For the second consecutive year, Tåg i Bergslagen is awaiting a state funding decision for its inter‑regional services on the Falun‑Gävle and Falun‑Örebro routes. The Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has not yet confirmed the financial framework for the 2027 timetable, leaving the operator unable to plan reliably.
CEO Maja Rapp said the company has long‑term vehicle contracts and investments that could be jeopardised if funding is reduced or withdrawn, potentially forcing service cuts or requiring the owner regions—Dalarna, Gävleborg, Örebro and Västmanland—to cover the shortfall. A joint letter from Tåg i Bergslagen and Region Kalmar to Infrastructure Minister Andreas Carlson has so far received no response, heightening concerns over the sustainability of the regional rail network.
