Swift 5.5 async/await implementation and task cancellation

The introduction of async/await syntax in Swift 5.5 provides a more readable method for writing asynchronous code, particularly through updated Apple SDKs and URLSession APIs. Developers can now perform data fetches, downloads, and uploads using streamlined patterns, such as using a single line of code to retrieve data and responses via URLSession.shared.data(from:).

Effective asynchronous programming requires managing task lifecycles to prevent resource waste and unexpected UI behavior. If background tasks, such as file downloads, are not explicitly cancelled when they become obsolete, they may continue to run and interfere with subsequent tasks. For example, a cancelled task might eventually update a shared state property, such as 'isDownloading', which could inadvertently disrupt a new, active download process.
