Swiggy drives AI‑native commerce platform in India
Swiggy’s chief technology officer, Madhusudhan Rao, says the next phase of Indian commerce will move beyond traditional apps to AI assistants that can understand intent and complete orders across multiple digital interfaces. Rao explained, “The bigger shift is that commerce is moving beyond apps into every interface that people already use,” envisioning a future where users could ask an AI to order dinner, schedule grocery delivery, or book a restaurant table without opening the Swiggy app. To support this vision, Swiggy has launched the Swiggy Builders Club, a developer initiative aimed at making the platform the underlying infrastructure for AI‑driven shopping experiences.
At the same time, Indian shoppers are increasingly using cashback websites to recoup a portion of their spending. These platforms act as intermediaries between consumers and retailers such as Amazon, Flipkart, and Myntra, sharing a slice of the commission earned on each purchase. They are especially valuable during festive sales, large‑ticket purchases, and routine grocery orders, allowing users to earn rebates that accumulate over time.
Both developments illustrate a broader shift in India’s e‑commerce landscape toward greater convenience through AI integration and cost‑saving mechanisms for consumers.
