Swiggy Instamart hit with nine FSSAI notices over alleged unsafe food

India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) issued nine formal notices to quick‑commerce platform Swiggy Instamart after multiple consumer complaints flagged the sale of expired, spoiled or contaminated food items. Reported products include Healthify 100 % Whey Protein, Noice Homestyle Madras Mixture with Peanuts, Akshayakalpa organic eggs, Kakke da Paratha, an infant food formulation and allegedly contaminated eggs and milk.

The regulator directed Swiggy Instamart to submit a detailed explanation and a compliance report covering its quality‑assurance system, inventory management, stock rotation, storage and hygiene practices, root‑cause analysis and corrective‑and‑preventive actions. It also cited licensing irregularities, such as “NOICE” eggs being marketed under a brand not covered by the company’s FSSAI licence and the use of incorrect or non‑existent licence numbers. Failure to provide the required information could trigger legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Swiggy’s spokesperson said the company is reviewing the flagged listings and is in contact with authorities.
