Venezuelan swimmer Manuel Díaz has set a new absolute national record in the 200-meter individual medley. Competing in the Troféu José Finkel 2026 in Brazil, Díaz recorded a time of 1:55.42 in the short course (25-meter) event.
This new mark improves upon his previous record of 2:01.06 by 5.64 seconds. The achievement follows a successful performance at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, where Díaz earned gold in the 100-meter butterfly (52.45 seconds), silver in the 200-meter butterfly (1:58.07), and bronze in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay.
Díaz is scheduled to compete next at the Santa Fe 2026 South American Games in Argentina, held from September 12 to 26.
