Swimmer Paul Georgescu clarifies identity amid social media confusion

World champion open water swimmer Paul Georgescu has addressed viral rumors on TikTok claiming he is the son of former Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu. The confusion stemmed from a coincidence of names and the fact that Călin Georgescu’s actual son, Pavel Georgescu, is also a swimmer.

Paul Georgescu, 47, clarified that his father is Eugen Georgescu, a well-known Romanian water polo coach. After spending two days reading the comments, the athlete released a statement noting that while he found the situation amusing, he wanted to provide clarity. He expressed pride in his own lineage and wished success to Călin Georgescu’s son.
