Swimmer reported missing at Robert Moses State Park found safe

A swimmer reported missing at Robert Moses State Park on Long Island has been located safe. The individual disappeared into heavy waves during a nor'easter on Saturday, triggering an extensive search involving the New York State Park Police, the U.S. Coast Guard, and local fire and public safety departments.

The man contacted authorities on Sunday after seeing media reports regarding the search. State police confirmed he was alive and well, noting he had only been in the water for a short period. Authorities used a series of questions to verify his identity.

While the swimmer was found safe, the nor'easter caused one fatality in Brooklyn. A 56-year-old NYCHA worker, Leighton Brown, was killed on Saturday when he was struck by a falling tree near the Cypress Hills Houses.
