Swiss 1. Liga Classic opens with FC Gossau‑Freienbach and Luzern‑St. Gallen fixtures

FC Gossau will open its 2026‑27 1. Liga Classic campaign at home against FC Freienbach on Sunday, 9 August, 14:00 in Buechenwald. After a series of pre‑season friendlies – a 3‑3 draw with USV Eschen/Mauren, a 3‑1 win over FC Winkeln and a 0‑2 loss to FC Baden – the team, coached by Giuliano Tobler, hopes to start the league strongly in front of its supporters.

In the same round, FC Luzern travel to St. Gallen. Coach Jörg “Udo” Portmann, under pressure after two defeats, is looking for his first win. He has kept goalkeeper Simon Simoni as the starter despite criticism, while the squad will be without Tyron Owusu and Bung‑Meng Freimann, who are suspended. Portmann says the match plan will be adhered to in order to secure points against the league rivals.
