Swiss Actor Jean‑Luc Bideau Honored with Career Award at Locarno Film Festival

Jean‑Luc Bideau, the 86‑year‑old veteran of Swiss cinema, received a lifetime‑achievement award at the Locarno Film Festival. He presented the out‑of‑competition film “Ah que le bonheur est proche!” by François‑Christophe Marzal and reflected on his career, noting an early improvisational role in Michel Soutter’s work that helped launch his path. Bideau recalled his involvement with the pioneering Groupe 5 collective that revitalised French‑speaking Swiss film in the late 1960s and mentioned notable collaborations with directors such as Claude Chabrol, Costa‑Gavras and Claude Goretta. He also spoke candidly about past choices, acknowledging that some projects were taken for financial reasons and that he had sometimes let his public image fade.

The award ceremony highlighted Bideau’s contributions to both Swiss and international cinema, underscoring his status as a central figure in the country’s post‑1960s film renaissance.
