German Tourist Dies in Austrian Alpine Climbing Accident
A 30‑year‑old man from Fürth died while climbing on a Klettersteig on the Fluchtalpe in the Vorarlberg region of Austria, close to the German border. Police said he had complained of fatigue, removed his safety set, lost his balance and fell about 100 metres down a vertical rock face into Germany, where he died on the spot. His body was recovered by a police helicopter.
On the same day a second fatal accident occurred in the Ötztal Alps near Sölden. A 63‑year‑old German climber fell roughly 200 metres while descending the Wildspitze during a guided tour and also died, with his remains retrieved by a helicopter. Both incidents are under investigation by Austrian authorities.
