Swiss Ambassador visits Minas to explore Swiss heritage

Álvaro Borghi, the Swiss Ambassador to Uruguay, visited the city of Minas to explore cultural and historical sites linked to Swiss immigration. The visit was organized in collaboration with local authorities and various Swiss community organizations in the country.

The itinerary included visits to the Monument to José Artigas on Cerro Artigas, the Lavalleja Theater, Plaza Libertad, the Minas Cathedral, and the Confitería Irisarri. The delegation also visited the Casa de la Cultura, where a press conference was held and a performance by the Children's Symphony Orchestra took place.

Local officials, including Lavalleja Intendant Daniel Ximénez and General Secretary Arianna Bentos, accompanied the Ambassador. Bentos noted that the tour focused on buildings and facilities in the department that were constructed by or are connected to Swiss immigrants and their descendants. Ambassador Borghi described the visit as a successful first of its kind in Uruguay, expressing a desire to continue such initiatives to connect the embassy with the entire national territory beyond Montevideo.
