Swiss business travelers bypass travel regulations

According to the eighth Global Business Travel Survey by SAP Concur, approximately 37% of business travelers in Switzerland admit to intentionally bypassing their company's travel regulations at least once.

Common ways travelers circumvent rules include using corporate discounts for private trips (20%), bringing guests on business trips against policy (17%), and extending business trips without notifying management (15%). Additionally, 9% of respondents reported using company funds to pay for meals or expenses for other individuals, while 7% used company money for private expenses.

Conversely, 19% of travelers reported that they deliberately refrained from submitting legitimate expenses to avoid appearing as a high cost driver for their employer. Michael Schmitz, Head of SAP Concur MEE, noted that vague travel policies can create uncertainty, suggesting that precise regulations and digital safeguards are necessary to foster a culture of trust and compliance.
