Swiss cableways record 7% rise in July visitors, Bernese Oberland leads
In July 2026, the Swiss Cableways umbrella organization (RMS) reported a 7 % increase in cable‑car users compared with the same month last year, bringing the national total 29 % above the five‑year average. The Bernese Oberland region posted the strongest growth, with a 24 % jump in rides, while the cantons of Vaud and Fribourg saw the steepest declines, each down about 10 %.
The rebound is linked to the full reopening of the Schilthorn cableway after renovation work, whereas the Eastern Switzerland region remained below last year’s level after the Säntis cableway was closed on 30 April 2026. Warm, sunny summer weather also boosted recreational travel in the Alps.
