Swiss Christian churches release ethical AI guidelines

Christian churches and associations in Switzerland have jointly released ten ethical guidelines titled ‘Humanity in the Digital Era’ to promote the responsible use of artificial intelligence. The initiative is supported by the Swiss Bishops' Conference, the Evangelical Reformed Church in Switzerland, the umbrella organization Freikirchen.ch, the Roman Catholic Church in Switzerland, and the Swiss Evangelical Alliance.

The guidelines are centered on the principle of inviolable human dignity, asserting that technical capabilities must be evaluated based on their contribution to the well-being of people and the world. The document is intended for use by ecclesiastical institutions, parishes, and communities, while also serving as a contribution to the broader public debate regarding decision-making, trust, and human responsibility in the age of AI.
