Swiss Community Celebrates 735th Confederation Anniversary in Argentina and Uruguay

On August 1, 2026, the Swiss community in Bariloche, Argentina marked the 735th anniversary of the Confederation of Switzerland with a protocol ceremony at Puerto San Carlos. The event, organized by the Club Suizo and the Sociedad Helvética Bariloche, was attended by local authorities including Antonio Zidar, director general of Relaciones Institucionales, and Horacio Desimone, who highlighted the historical contribution of Swiss immigrants to the region.

In Nueva Helvecia, Uruguay, a parallel celebration took place in the Plaza de los Fundadores. Organized by the Comisión Pro Colonia Suiza Trabajo y Tradición, the ceremony featured Valeria Schaffner of the commission, representatives of the Swiss Embassy, and members of local Swiss clubs and cultural groups. Both gatherings emphasized the enduring cultural ties and the legacy of the 1291 pact that founded the Swiss Confederation.
