The Swiss consumer confidence index rose by 2.3 points in June 2026, reaching -35.8, according to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco). While the reading remains firmly in negative territory and below the level a year earlier, it marks a modest recovery from the March low of -42.9. Financial outlook assessments continued to deteriorate, with the expected personal financial situation index slipping to -31.8 points.
Postfinance’s consumption indicator showed that Swiss household spending was 1.8% higher in June compared with the same month a year earlier. Growth was driven primarily by travel spending, including a rise in holiday bookings and rental‑car demand. Restaurant visits stayed strong, while everyday retail expenditures fell slightly. Spending on books and learning materials increased, and beauty and wellness spending remained stable.
Both indices are viewed as early signals of private‑household economic behavior, with Seco’s consumer‑sentiment survey running since 1972 and Postfinance’s indicator based on anonymised transaction data from about 2.4 million customers.
