Swiss court sentences man for identity fraud and business deception
A Kosovar man has been sentenced by a Swiss court after successfully impersonating a French citizen to deceive multiple authorities in Zurich and Geneva. Using a travel document for stateless persons, the individual managed to convince local officials, including a mayor in the Horgen district, of his assumed French nationality.
This deception allowed him to register two separate businesses in the Zurich commercial register and obtain a cross-border permit from migration offices. For approximately one year, he worked as a cleaner, earning roughly 3,000 Swiss francs per month. The fraud continued when a business partner applied for a change of employer through migration authorities, which was approved without the man's true identity being discovered.
The scheme was uncovered six months after his last fraudulent act when he was arrested in Zurich upon entering Switzerland via Geneva. The Limmattal/Albis Public Prosecutor's Office sentenced him to a conditional fine of 4,500 Swiss francs with a two-year probationary period, in addition to 1,700 Swiss francs in procedural costs and fines.
