Swiss exits controversial Miami crew hotel after staff complaints

Swiss International Air Lines has decided to stop using its controversial crew hotel in Miami following months of intense criticism from flight crews. As of September 3, airline personnel are being temporarily accommodated in an alternative hotel while the company searches for a long-term solution.

The decision marks a significant reversal for the airline. Earlier this year, Swiss had maintained its position regarding the accommodation despite reports of mold, pests, broken elevators, malfunctioning air conditioning, and safety concerns such as blocked emergency exits. In internal communications, the airline admitted it had been ‘too optimistic’ regarding the hotel management's ability to implement sustainable improvements.

Crew members and unions, including Kapers, had previously highlighted that the conditions were inadequate for necessary rest after long-haul flights. The airline has issued an apology to its staff for the situation.
