Swiss exports see growth in watch and gold sectors

The Swiss watch industry demonstrated significant strength in September, with exports rising 11.7 percent year-on-year to 2.23 billion Swiss francs. For the first nine months of 2026, total watch exports reached 19.5 billion francs, a 2.7 percent increase. Growth was driven largely by the United States, where exports surged by 85.7 percent, and Japan, which saw a 12.3 percent increase. Conversely, exports to mainland China declined by 14.2 percent.

Simultaneously, Swiss gold exports increased in September, reaching 165.2 tonnes valued at approximately 19.9 billion euros, a 5.5 percent rise from August. The United Kingdom remains the primary destination, receiving 126 tonnes of gold. On the import side, Switzerland received 227.9 tonnes of gold, with the largest shipments originating from the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, and Italy.
