Swiss football clubs retain longer transfer windows than major European leagues
The Swiss Football League maintains a later transfer deadline compared to many major European leagues. While leagues such as the English Premier League and Spain's LaLiga close their windows on September 1, Swiss clubs have until September 8, 2026, to complete international transfers.
This discrepancy is due to a rule change approved by Swiss clubs in May 2023. The adjustment to qualification periods allows Swiss teams extra time to find replacements if they lose key players to foreign clubs immediately before those leagues close their respective windows.
Additionally, following the closure of the standard transfer window, various players remain on the market as free agents. Notable unattached players include Marcel Beifus, Cedric Teuchert, and Can Bozdogan, among others who can still be signed by clubs.
