Swiss forward Breel Embolo granted US visa for World Cup preparations

Swiss striker Breel Embolo, 29, received a United States visa after additional immigration checks tied to previous legal proceedings, including a 2023 conviction for multiple threats. The Swiss Football Association confirmed the visa approval and said Embolo will travel to join the national team’s training camp in San Diego ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The extra scrutiny involved reviewing documents from a 2018 Basel incident and the 2023 case before immigration officials gave final clearance, allowing Embolo to reunite with his teammates who had already departed for California.
