Swiss Franc surges against Euro amid French fiscal concerns
The Swiss franc has appreciated by more than 2% against the euro in October, marking its strongest monthly advance since late 2023. This surge is driven by investor flight toward safe-haven assets due to growing concerns over France's public finances and political uncertainty in France and Spain.
French 10-year government bond yields have risen toward approximately 4.96%, approaching levels not seen since July 2002. The spread between French and German 10-year borrowing costs has widened significantly, reaching levels reminiscent of the European sovereign debt crisis in 2011. This fiscal pressure, compounded by political unrest and demonstrations in France, continues to weigh on the euro's strength.
