Swiss manager faces French legal action after driving Porsche at 312 km/h
A 48-year-old Swiss manager faces legal action after being caught driving a Porsche 911 GT3 at 312 km/h on the A40 motorway in the Arve Valley, Haute-Savoie, on September 27. After applying the official technical margin of tolerance, authorities recorded a speed of 300 km/h in a 130 km/h zone.
The driver faces several penalties, including license withdrawal, vehicle seizure, and potential criminal charges. Under French regulations, exceeding the limit by more than 50 km/h is a criminal offense that can result in up to three months in prison and a fine of 3,750 euro.
However, the driver's legal defense is challenging the validity of the measurement. Lawyers argue that because mobile radar units are typically certified for speeds up to 250 km/h, the device may not have been legally homologated to measure such high speeds. The case is scheduled for judicial review at the tribunal in Bonneville in February.
