Swiss mobile frequency auction to cost telecoms at least 855 million francs
The Swiss Federal Communications Commission (Comcom) has announced the terms for the upcoming auction of mobile network frequencies. The renewal process is expected to cost telecommunications providers Swisscom, Sunrise, and Salt a minimum of 854.7 million Swiss francs.
The auction is tentatively scheduled for the second quarter of 2027, with companies required to submit their application dossiers by December 3. The frequencies currently in use, which were originally assigned in 2012, are set to expire in 2028. The new licenses will grant usage rights for a 15-year period, running from the beginning of 2029 through the end of 2043.
Comcom has adjusted the entry prices for specific bands to reflect their value. The starting price for the 800 and 900 MHz bands, noted for their high coverage and indoor penetration, has been tripled compared to 2012 levels. Additionally, the price for the 1800 and 2100 MHz bands, which offer a balance of speed and range, has been doubled.
