Swiss Pillar 3a savings account interest rates decline
Interest rates for Swiss Pillar 3a savings accounts are declining, with an average rate of only 0.21 percent according to a survey by Moneyland. While many providers offer 0.2 percent or less, some institutions provide higher returns. Caisse d'Epargne d'Aubonne leads with 1.0 percent, followed by Cornèr Banca at 0.7 percent.
Experts warn that savers often underestimate the impact of compound interest. For example, a monthly deposit of 500 francs over 30 years would result in a balance of approximately 209,666 francs at a 1 percent interest rate, compared to only 181,353 francs at a 0.05 percent rate—a difference of over 28,000 francs. The decline in rates is attributed to multiple interest rate cuts by the Swiss National Bank.
