Swiss police launch road safety campaigns for school start

As the new school year begins in Switzerland, police forces in the cantons of Valais and Schaffhausen have launched safety campaigns to protect children on their commutes.

In Valais, the Cantonal Police, supported by municipal forces, are participating in the national ‘Luege | Brämse | Halte’ (Look | Brake | Stop) campaign organized by the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) and the Fund for Road Safety (FVS). The current phase focuses on reminding drivers to adjust their speed near schools, residential areas, and public transport stops. Authorities are conducting both awareness activities and targeted checks on speed limits and pedestrian right-of-way.

In Schaffhausen, the police are collaborating with the TCS and the Automobile Club of Switzerland (ACS) during the first week of school. The campaign involves students, accompanied by police officers, stopping drivers to encourage attentive and considerate driving. These efforts aim to mitigate risks associated with children, who may have difficulty judging distances and speeds or may act unpredictably in traffic.
