Portuguese driver hit 184 km/h on Swiss road near Elsau

On Saturday evening, 4 July 2026, the Zurich cantonal police carried out a laser speed check on the St. Gallerstrasse outside Elsau. A 30‑year‑old Portuguese driver was recorded traveling at 184 km/h, far above the 80 km/h limit. He was temporarily detained, his driving licence was confiscated and he will appear before the Winterthur/Unterland prosecution for a speeding offence.

Earlier in the same period, three other motorists were measured at 114 km/h, 116 km/h and 122 km/h. A 53‑year‑old Swiss driver travelling at 109 km/h was reported to the district office. The licences of the suspected raser and the driver clocked at 122 km/h were handed over to the road‑traffic authority.

No injuries were reported.
