Swiss police use humor and social media to engage citizens

Swiss police departments are utilizing humor and creative digital strategies to enhance their social media presence and community engagement.

The Zurich City Police (Stadtpolizei Zürich) released a video designed to bridge the generational gap by incorporating Gen-Z slang. The video features a young woman reporting an incident using terms such as ‘bestie’, ‘sus’, ‘random’, and ‘crashout’. In a comedic twist, a police officer initially claims a ‘language barrier’ before a colleague responds using the same slang, reinforcing the department's message of being ‘closer to the people’ and understanding all generations.

Similarly, the Lucerne Police (Luzerner Polizei) demonstrated a pragmatic approach to digital content creation. Addressing the challenge of producing video content when only still photographs are available, the department shared a clip showing how they transform photos into dynamic social media posts. The initiative highlights the increasing importance of content planning and adaptive communication in modern policing.
