Swiss Stone Throwing Championships: Simon Hunziker wins 18th title
The 39th Swiss Stone Throwing Championships held in Schwellbrunn saw several record-breaking performances and title wins. Simon Hunziker, aged 44, secured his 18th Swiss championship title by winning the 18-kg stone category, setting a new record. While Hunziker dominated the 18-kg event, Urs Hutmacher showed strength in the 40-kg and 73-kg categories, taking gold in both and leaving Hunziker with silver.
In the 12.5-kg stone category, Roger Gröbli claimed the title after a strong final throw of 12.34 meters, defeating the defending champion Urs Hutmacher.
In the women's competitions, Sina Cavelti secured two titles in the 6-kg and 12.5-kg stone categories. Cavelti, who also plays professional football for FC St. Gallen, won both events with significant leads. Other notable performances included Elisabeth Santner, who earned two medals, and Jonas Rhiner, who took silver in the 8-kg boys' category.
