Swiss teachers reject current integrative school model

A study conducted by gfs. bern and the LCH (Dachverband Schweizer Lehrerinnen und Lehrer) reveals significant tension regarding the implementation of integrative schooling in Switzerland. Among classroom teachers who work without specialized support, over 54 percent reject the current integrative model, citing an inability to meet the diverse needs of all students.

While the debate often centers on a lack of resources, critics argue the issue is not a total absence of funding but rather its distribution. Current resources and specialized pedagogical expertise are often concentrated in privately run special education schools. Proponents of reform suggest that integrating these specialized resources directly into regular classrooms would better support overburdened teachers.

Urs Bieri of gfs. bern noted that while politicians ordered the integrative school model, teachers are the ones bearing the consequences. Dagmar Rösler, President of LCH, emphasized that those who mandate integration must also provide the necessary means to implement it effectively.
