Swiss teen Johan Manzambi sets World Cup brace record

Johan Manzambi, a 20‑year‑old Swiss midfielder, made World Cup history by scoring a double against Bosnia, becoming the youngest player ever to record a brace at the tournament and the youngest Swiss scorer in a World Cup since 1950.

In Switzerland's next group match versus Canada, Manzambi started and added a goal and an assist, raising his direct goal contributions to four (three goals, one assist). This matches a record previously held only by Kylian Mbappé and Thomas Müller for sub‑21 players.

Manzambi was born to an Angolan mother and a Congolese father, grew up in Switzerland and later moved to Germany to play for Freiburg, where he has scored 7 goals and provided 6 assists in 47 appearances. Coach Murat Yakin praised his versatility, saying “Johan is a happy boy with incredible skills.” The player himself said he might not be able to sleep after his first World Cup brace.
